first step :la bruschetta

Thursday night is usually an indoor night for me - I either visit , entertain visitors or just re-energise from the past week. This wasn't the case as Dima and I drove in the crowded roads of Amman the   other day past the Abdullat Concert at one on the Candidates Campaign  in Madina Munawara street .I had an urge to go down and enjoy I like Abdullat but the Picture and Imagination of the Perfect Spaghetti Bolognaise was still haunting me . And I didn't like the candidate anyways, this dislike is based on his backround and personality .

So after Al Madinah and Mecca Streets things were better the streets  from Um Uthaina to Abdoun   weren't that full . But you can feel the life in the city people are just starting to go out .So as first step for our Quest we headed to La Bruschetta.
 It was relatively early we reached  it at 9:00 PM .
The Restaurant is at the Corner opposite to The Abdoun Park Project and the Terrace oversees the noisy street.
It's a casual place with bright white motive inside but a garden style furniture on the terrace . I think it's suitable for all ages , family ,friends and business dinners.
So Dima and I decided to sit at the terrace as the weather was lovely and inside was empty .It wasn't a problem to find a place there.
There were a couple , business associate , 2 friends and old married couple and 2 families enjoying their meal out .
We were greeted by a friendly waiter and were offered the complimentary appetizers which
was a plate of finely chopped tomatoes and onions with a basket of bread.  The bread was supposed to be something like arabic Taboon Bread but was dry and not appetizing at all and the tomatoes weren't fresh .We added Balsamico ,oil and salt---which made it better but didn't make it pleasant .
We were a bit discouraged and worried that the Food won't be that great
The menu covered american , mexican and italian dishes . Starters , Soups ,Salads , Pasta ,Steak, Burgers and Pizza.
We knew what we wanted : The House Salad , Spaghetti Bolognaise (which was surprisingly not on the menu) and a Pizza
After the appetizers we weren't sure what we would expect :

we had different set of China and cultery ,,,so we were still worried..

Our friendly waiter came with the a Huge Portion of Salad ...it looked nice !

Salad Della casa (Ice berg lettuce , Sparagus , Mushrooms , Avo Cad, Artichock, Palmitto hearts , cherry tomatoes , in a (lovely lemon , mustard and vinegrette) dressing .

We were now very optimistic and were expecting good things :)

The Spaghetti:  The Soul of the quest

We asked for Half Meatless and Half Pure Bolognaise in one dish ...2 mountains of spaghetti covered with dried parmesan and again a tiny Jordanian flag on the side of one of the spaghetti mountains (btw it was also on the salad mountain ) Large portion again emphasized !!

We were again uncertain what we would be expecting:

We were surprised to see Zucchini ,as it wasn’t mentioned on the menu,and we weren’t that thrilled about the asparagus.

Eat Pray Love : Best Italian Food Quest Amman

Dima my dear friend  and I
watched “Eat Pray Love “last week.  And it was lovely, many claim it’s a chick-flick, some claim it’s a foodie movie and
some say it has the potential to be life altering although I doubt that.For us it was a nice "feel good "movie that kept us graving for Spaghetti and Pizza for a week now.

Rose (Julia Roberts ) trip for  Italy where she re discovers her passion for food ---Left us with a mouth watering feeling---and your stomach starts aching for Spaghetti and Pizza 
Since we can not afford Rome and Napoli :(

We started on the following Food Quest: to find the perfect Spaghetti , Salad and Pizza
in Amman.

Sounds Cheesy?

 I don’t care I just hope it is “yummy cheesy”.

Titanic ,Salah El Din and Love

Today I think was a romantic movie night on Fox Movies as it showed "Titanic".
I remember being 15 when Titanic first hit theaters in Amman- Jordan. I remember the huge fuss about it and how for the first time "Galleria " a movie theatre at Abdoun Circle, an affluent district in Amman, at that time raised its tickets prices to 5.5 JD's for that specific movie. The whole world was taken by that scene of Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Lancelot at the front of the boat: it touched  lots of hearts. that ending ... oh how he sacrificed for her..

Aren't we just fools for these silly Romances .
Even in Nablus- a Palestinian preservative town, the name of the Falafel and Humous deli across my grandparents house was changed from the renowned historic Muslim leader "Salah El Din " to "Titanic".

I always wondered about it : Did the Deli owner just decide to modernise his place ? Was resistance now old fashioned that the peace process was just starting ? Or did he want just to celebrate the love story behind the ship's destruction ?
Titanic Just Sell : how much promotional items "Original" and "Chinese" were sold all over the world .

Till now that image is stuck in all our heads .

Does Love just Sell Better ?   

 Is it like the 3 cents opera where all celebrate love but love itself is not invited ?

Are we over compensating its absence by these celebrations and consumptions.

تأملات الشبكة العنكبوتية والاجتماعية في مكان

 

جيلي لم يتعرف الى الانترنت قبل الجامعة، و كنا من القلة الذين لديهم كمبيوتر صخر ومن ثم كمبيوتر3.1 Windows .بصراحة لم يكن للكمبيوتر، الأتاري ، play boy أوPlay Station مساحة كبيرة في حياتنا، حتى الستالايت لم يدخل حياتي قبل الصف التاسع ، وبما أننا قد حظينا بجوالأردن المعتدل و الأقل رفاهية: كنا أقل عرضة من أقراننا في الخليج للجلوس أمام الشاشات فكانت طفولتنا لحد ما أقرب للطبيعة والحركة.

كان هذا العرض ما أردته تماما عندما اصطحبت ابنتي الصغيرة لرؤيته. فأنا لي تحفظاتي اتجاه الشبكة والاغراء الذي يتمثل بامكانيات التسلية، الابداع والمعرفة القادرة على توفيرها هذه الشبكة وبرأي هناك مخاطر أبعد من المختلين و المجرمين الذين قد تتعرض لهم، هناك خطر الانطواء و الابتعاد عن العالم والعجز الاجتماعي ولكن أعلم أن رأي وحدي لن تقدره .

هل سيعطيني هذا العرض ويعطيها منظور أخر؟ اعطاء منظور لابنة الست سنوات هو شيء أصعب مما تتصوررا ..وبصراحة نحن الأمهات ما زال لنا بعض التأثير أشبه بغسيل الدماغ لكنه بالحقيقة" مؤقت " فنحن بهذا العمر ما زلنا "مرجعية" ...لكن الى متى ؟؟ .

كان أول ما واجهنا هي شبكة معلقة على مدخل البهو الداخلي للقاعة الرئيسة في مساحة العرض في "مكان" من الخيوط المترابطة تتدلى منها ألعاب على شكل حيوانات، ليغو وأشكال مختلفة .كل مجموعة مترابطة بطريقة ما و كل فرد من الجموعة مترابط بأفراد مجموعته و المجموعات الأخرى مباشرة او عن طريق أعضاء أخرين .

تمثيل للشبكة الاحتماعية على الشبكة الالكترونية والأحكام المسبقة التي نطلقها نحن متأثرين بمعارف الأشخاص ..هل حقا ان "الطيور على اشكالها تقع "؟

* ابنتي أعجبتها الألعاب .

يبدأ التدريج ..لتدرك أنك ستكون امام شرح، أفتراضيات، امكانيات و

أو مخاوف لهذا الواقع الافتراضي للشبكة الالكترونية .

الى يسارك ترى تمثالين شفافين لأسخاص دون رؤوس دون وجوه دون ملامح . على مقعدين متقابلين أمام جهازي كمبيوتر شاشاتها تعرض صور لمكان مساحة العرض و المنظر المطل . لكليهما قلب ينبض.

قلب ينبض لنقرة ..مأخوذين ..

*أعجب الصغيرة هذا العرض. سألتها : شو أحسن . أجابت : نتطلع حوالينا عشان نشوف . وتساءلت: وين راسهم ؟

الى اليمين ترى كاونتر طويل مزروع بنباتات ...لماذا لاتسقي طاولة القهوة صباحا؟ تخفض رأسك أسفله لتدخل غرفة العرض...ترى حقلا من القمح أمام خزانة ارادت لها الفنانة ان تكون مسكنها ...الى يمينك أفكار و مشاريع ..اذا كان العالم العنكبوتي قد فرض علينا حقائق بعالم بديل فلا أبعاد و لا قياسات ...لماذا لا نحقق عالمنا الافتراضي بعالمنا الحقيقي و نحقق أفكارا مجنونة كنا نراها قريبا عندما كنا اصغر..

*صغيرتي قالت عادي ...

في الغرفة الجانبية ببدأ العرض الأدائي لعواطف رومية بلباس أزرق متصلة بحبال زرقاء بنقاط تمثل اختصارات الدول ..ها هي بدائرة من أوراق مهملة هي حوارات قديمة احتفظت بنسخات لها ...وأحاطت نفسها بها . تتحرك ...تحاول الخروج ...فلا تقدر ..بالنهاية تنزع الأربطة و تخرج من الدائرة ...تبقى قيودها متعلقة متصلة بالعالم .

*استغربت ابنتي العرض و تساءلت لماذا ..

هنا بدأت أنا بالإلقاء و الشرح ...أخجل من قول غسل دماغ ..

في حقيقة الأمر تأثير الأهل الذين هم نفسهم متأثرين ... يخبوا أمام هذا الاغراء . فالزمن يتغير ونحن نتغير ..ويبقى هناك حوار ...مما يذكرني بمواضيع انشاء المدرسة "صراع الأجيال ".

أعرض عليكم هذا المقال متجنبة ذكر اسم ابنتي بعد دعوتي عن طريق البريد الالكتروني، و يتم نقله عبر حبر صحافة المواطن واحدى وسائل التفاعل الاجتماعية على الشبكة العنكبوتية، و سأعمل على نشره باستخدام تويتر والفيسبوك الذي اتصفحهم مع فنجان القهوة صباحا وقبل النوم .

Tawjihi Saturday

I said to myself it's about time to write something new ...
But what should this something be exactly ?
Today is Saturday the day that starts by enjoying that you are still in the weekend and ends by moaning about Tomorrow being soo close .
So what was different about today ?
.
It was Tawjihi results Saturday ( Tawjihi: is the state exam for ending school) . Any Ammani and I dare to say Jordanian knows what this day means : If you are living in a Tawjihi free house then you'll probably be waking to cars horns and shouts of 18 year olds hanging out the windows celebrating their success  if you are lucky  otherwise you'll jump out of the bed scared of the sound of  bullets or fire works of joy ;( .
Definitely if you do have a tawjihi student in your household then you would have had a sleepless night  infront of your computer screen entering their Tawjihi ID number Submitting and Re Submitting it in the hope that you will see the result earlier, to finally get the result at their scheduled time .
Depending on that you will react either celebrate like there s no tomorrow and recieve phone calls all day or to cry and refuse all phone calls.
And of course success or failure above 50% is subjective to each case . I knew 2 tawjihi students  one was exctetic about passing and getting 67% the other cried her heart out for getting 94%

Tawjihi results  was and still is for many the definitive score that shaped or will shape our lives .
It decides whether you 'll get into university or not , which major will you study etc .

The competition is to enter a decent college is hard and also not really fair . Yourr grade isn't the only decisive point it's also your back ground , your financial capabilities and your connections .
Many of us still talk about their tawjihi experience, and  the things they could ve done to better the result
I mean I have the worse re occuring dream about going to a tawjihi test without studying

So was that really worth talking about ? I think what s really interesting that I know that each one has a story and each one can tell us about it .
